If you are 16 or 17, you MUST have junior waiver forms signed by BOTH parents. One parent must attend the event with the junior driver. See the RMR/PCA website at www.rmr.pca.org or contact the event chair for forms. NO EXCEPTIONS!

No one under 16 years of age is permitted at the event.

No pets permitted at the event.

Porsches are welcome, but not required. Bring your winter driver with snow tires or studded tires.

January in Georgetown is cold and often windy. Plan to dress in layers and wear warm boots, hats and gloves.

Allow extra time for ski traffic and weather!

No pre-tech will be required. Since speeds and g-forces are low, we will not require top tech, but highly recommend de-cluttering your car before you drive.

Restroom facilities will be available.

Schedule is below:

9:00am - 9:30am - Check-in at Georgetown Lake
9:45am - Mandatory driver's meeting
10:00am - 1:00pm - Ice Driving
1:00pm - 1:30pm - Course teardown/cleanup
1:30pm - Lunch in town

Lunch is optional, and an extra fee. It is a set menu, includes a soda/non-alcoholic drink, and your choice of:
- Burger (beef or vegan patty) with fries or salad
- Grilled romaine with chicken or shrimp
- Bistro chicken sandwich with fries or salad
- Spicy Jackalope sausage with fries or salad

Finally, one of our participants of years past (and current!), John D, was kind enough to provide some more tips:

DRIVE TIMES:
Your navigation app might tell you that it only takes 45 minutes to get to Georgetown; but it can actually take over three hours due to ski traffic. People often show up much later than they expected.

LAKE ACCESS and BATHROOM FACILITIES:
Take I-70 to the Georgetown exit. Go through the roundabout, and go left on Argentine Street. Go about 1.2 miles, paralleling I-70. The lake will be on your right. Pull off at the wildlife viewing area (near the far end of the lake). There is a dirt parking lot that can accommodate about 40 cars. The bathroom facilities are just those basic one-person concrete outhouses common at state parks, so bring a roll of toilet paper and some hand wipes.

WHAT TO WEAR / WHAT TO BRING:
Whether you're driving or just up there to watch and have fun, remember that you'll be on a frozen lake all day! It can be bitterly cold and windy in the morning but quite warm by the afternoon, so dress in layers. Long underwear is a good idea, also warm socks, hat, and gloves. The glare of the sun on the ice can be blinding and give you sunburn, so make sure you have sunscreen, sunglasses, and a ball cap. There are no businesses nearby, so bring enough food and water to keep you happy. Being dehydrated and hungry leads to headaches and a crappy day.

TRACTION FOR YOUR SHOES:
Solid ice is darn slippery; don't bonk your noggin! Wear some kind of traction device on your shoes! Here are my experiences:

Kahtoola MICROspikes - These are really good! But the spikes aren't "micro" at all; in fact, they're quite big! They're bulky and you probably shouldn't drive with them on; the triangular spikes are so big that they can interfere with pedal operation. Also, the spikes are steel and get rounded off after
a while. They are best for hiking in snow, slushy ice and mud; on hard ice the spikes don't grip as well. They can be scary slippery on polished concrete, stone, tile, and metal surfaces.

Walk by YakTrax (the basic YakTrax model with springs in "X" patterns across the sole of your shoe) - They work OK, but the springs tend to spin out of position and the rubber bands inside the springs breaks pretty quickly. If you get on a hard surface (glare ice, concrete, tile floors) they don't grip and you can slip. NOT recommended; I think they are the WORST of all the ice grippers, but still better than nothing.

Snow Trax by YakTrax - These are pretty darn good, and available at Costco. the narrow carbide spikes are similar to what's on a snow tire, and poke into hard glare-ice pretty well. I wish they had more spikes, but they're durable, easy to get on and off, and the slim profile lets me drive with them on. They even bite into smooth concrete, stone, tile, and metal surfaces. I think these are the best general-purpose traction enhancers.

Alps IceGrips (and generic Chinese equivalents) black rubber over-soles with yellow plastic discs & metal spikes - They grip fairly well, but the spikes sometimes pop out and get lost; some versions come with extra spikes. Also, I think the spikes are soft steel; they wear down pretty fast on hard surfaces (like concrete). They're a cheaper version of the Snow Trax; They're OK but I think there are better products out there.

ICEtrekkers/YakTrax Diamond Grips - I haven't tried them, but a lot of people were wearing them and liked them. Supposedly they work well on glare ice and don't slip on smooth concrete, stone, tile, or metal surfaces. Low-profile, so you can drive with them on.

ICEtrekkers/YakTrax Chains - Similar to the Diamond Grips, but cheaper. I haven't tried them yet.

STABILicers & STABILicers Maxx - I haven't tried them yet, but they get great reviews on Amazon.

HillSound Crampons - Probably very similar to the Kahtoola MICROspikes. Big spikes are best for softer surfaces like snow, slushy ice and mud. You won't want to drive while wearing these!

Get the right size! If you get a size too small and stretch it over your shoes, it will break pretty quickly!
